Fan Balancing
When equipment is out of balance the resulting vibration has a significant impact on how long bearings, as well as other components will last. In-place dynamic balancing is a rather inexpensive method of correcting the increased load to the bearings caused by force, dynamic, coupled, or overhung rotor imbalance.

While we are on-site, and performing this service, our technicians go the extra mile and record vibration data on all rotating elements associated with the component to balance. The motor is the often overlooked component, however bearings, pulley condition, electrical fluting (with VFD driven motors), often causes problems that could potentially cause more significant problems than an unbalanced rotor.

We perform this complete diagnosis of corrective maintenance to make sure you know the condition of the entire machine.

Determining whether a rotating mass is out of balance can be simple, however vibration that “feels” like unbalance may not necessarily be from unbalance.

When we collect vibration data before we balance, we can determine the source of the vibration. Many times there are other sources causing the unbalance feel such as looseness or soft foot. Our technicians will diagnose whether there is a mass unbalance by looking at the vibration spectrum data, checking phase (direction of vibration), and inspecting the entire machine. If unbalance is found, we can add or subtract weight depending on the situation. We will also take vibration readings on all bearings, analyze and provide a report on the complete condition of the equipment.
Several things can contribute to vibration that acts like unbalance such as loose bolts, cracked foundations, misalignment, locked isolators (opposite of soft foot), soft foot, worn pulleys, etc. There are also causes of unbalance that are very easy to correct such as dirt within pulley cavities or dirt or grime buildup on rotors.

What is left may be mass unbalance. Our technicians will diagnose whether there is mass unbalance by looking at the FFT, checking phase (direction of vibration), and inspecting the entire machine. If unbalance is found, we can place weight or remove weight depending on the situation. We will also take vibration readings on all bearings, analyze and provide a report on the complete condition of the equipment.

For more complex machine concerns or suspected structural faults, you may want to consider a Motion Amplification or  ODS  study.
Forces cause machine damage. A fan out of balance is a common machine condition that contributes to reduced bearing and other component life. When our technicians balance your fan, they will begin by performing a full analysis for two reasons.
1. A variety of machine conditions can mimic unbalance. By capturing a full set of data on both the motor and the fan, other potential machine problems are identified. It may be that balancing is not the primary corrective action needed. It is also of great value to our clients to receive a condition assessment of the motor.
2. We go the extra yard for our clients.
